Let's Play Speed Match!

Stop, drop, roll.  If someone else catches on fire, tackle them with a blanket and force them to take these steps if they don't do it themselves!

1. Never tell anyone over the phone or at the door that no adult is home.

2. You should not use the stove.

3. You should not play outside.

4. Do not go anywhere if your adults think you are home.

5. What else?

1. Promise of candy, toys, or something else you might want

2. Tell you your safeside adult is sick or in an accident and they are sent to come and get you to bring you to them

3. That they need your help (like asking you for directions in their car or asking you to help find a lost pet).  No adult should ask a kid for help!

4. Others?

1. NO.  Do not call unless someone is in immediate danger.  If threats to hurt are made and you believe they might happen, you should call.

2.  YES.  If someone has a body part that looks seriously broken or hurt, call but do not move the person unless they are in immediate danger.

3. NO.  I know you love your dog, but this is not a life-threatening emergency.

4. YES.  Try really hard to wake her up.  Yell, scream, shake her.  If it doesn't work, then call.  Also, it might matter where she is laying.  If she is in the middle of the kitchen floor, something is probably wrong.

FALSE!!  Do not answer the door unless you are with your safeside adult!

Because if emergency responders are busy with a prank and a real emergency happens, it can delay their response time.

Safeside adults, doctors, and nurses are the only people who should give you medicine.  If a safeside adult has INSTRUCTED someone else (like an adult at school or a babysitter) then it is okay.

1. YES.  If she swallowed poison, it is important that she gets help immediately!

2. YES.  This may be an anaphylactic reaction and can be life threatening within seconds or minutes.  Blood pressure drops and airways narrow and the person cannot breathe.  It is a fairly common allergy and other common causes are peanuts, tree nuts, sea food, medications, and latex.  Most people know about their allergies, but cannot know if someone has never been stung before.

3. YES.  It doesn't matter if other people have called.  If there is ANY doubt, you should call too.  It is better have too many people responding than none!

4. YES.  This could be dangerous and someone may be inside.  Get AWAY from the house and call.

If you do not know these, PLEASE have a safeside adult write them down, post them somewhere, and practice!!!

STAY ON THE LINE!!!  Let them know what happened and that it was an accident! If not, they will assume it was a true emergency.  They will try to call you back and will send responders if they can figure out your location!

1. Do not share personal information like your name, school, address, phone number, schedule, or team names.

2. Do not share passwords.

3. Play appropriate games and be on websites with appropriate content.

4. Do not go on social media sites or create accounts without parent permission.

5. Use kind words and do not ever type anything you wouldn't say in person!

6. Have parents set parental controls when possible.

7. Do not click on any tabs (you are NOT actually a winner!)

8. Do not open any emails or links from anyone you do not know.

9. Remember that not everyone online is honest and who they say they are.

10. Follow all household rules regarding online safety.

11. TELL AN ADULT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE IF SOMETHING OR SOMEONE ONLINE IS DANGEROUS, MAKES YOU UNCOMFORTABLE, OR GIVES YOU AN "UH-OH" FEELING!

YES.  Usuallly.  Most phones can still call out an emergency number even if it is not connected to a plan and even if the phone is on a "locked" screen.

1. What happened

2. Name

3. Address

4. Phone number

If someone is hurt they will also want to know the person's name, status, and if anything has been done since they were hurt

TRUE!  If you are anywhere else, there is usually another adult present that can call.  If an adult is available to make the decision and/or call, they should.  A kid should only call if an adult is unavailable or the one that needs the help.

FALSE!! Stay on the line until help arrives and/or they TELL you to hang up.  By staying on the line, they can stay updated if anything in the situation changes (like the person's condition gets worse), they can give you instructions for the best way to help the situation, they can help you stay calm and/or answer any questions you have, and they can tell you when help is arriving (it can be scary if you are alone and people are knocking at the door!).

TRUE!!!!!  Use phone calls, texts, notes at home, and/or stop home in between activities so your adults (or at least the adult in charge) always know where you are, who you are with, and what you are doing in case of an emergency or that they need to contact you!

1. Get help from someone nearby

2. YELL for help

3. Get a neighbor

4. Ask someone to help find a phone

5. If you are in immediate danger you can hide

*Ask your adult what to do from your house*

1. A manager and/or someone who works there.

2. A person running an information desk or booth

3. A police officer, security guard, fireman, EMT, or military member that is on duty (in full gear and at an assigned post).

4. A woman with small children.

5. A friend, neighbor, or teacher that you recognize.  In general it is not safe to go with these people unless you ask your safeside adult first.  However, if you are lost and need help, these people can help you reuinte with your safe adult. If you get an "uh-oh" feeling when someone is helping you, RUN from danger!

If you do NOT know a fire safety plan, please talk to your adults as soon as possible so that you know what to do if there is a fire at your house!!!
