Play This Game

Weathering, Erosion, or Deposition???
#1 Caves being formed by acid rain dissolving underground limestone Weathering
#2 Glaciers dropping rock and sand to form terminal moraines Deposition
#3 A mudslide flowing down a steep hill Erosion
#4 Waves dropping sand on the beach Deposition
#5 Wind blowing sand from one location to another Erosion
Landforms
#1 A long, deep, narrow outlet of the sea located between mountain valleys

Fjord
#2 A natural source of flowing water, larger than a stream River
#3 A sand hill or ridge formed by the wind; usually in desert regions or near lakes or oceans Dune
#4 The till deposited at the edges of a glacier that forms a ridge Moraine
#5 A river that takes a twisting, turning path, like a snake Meander
Caves and Sinkholes
#1 A sedimentary rock made from the remains of sea animals, which makes up karst terrain Limestone
#2 An area of porous limestone where caves and sinkholes are more likely to form Karst
#3 An underground space which is hollowed out by water and which may collapse if the uppermost layer gets too thin Sinkhole
#4 A mineralized growth that forms starting from the ceiling of a cave Stalactite
#5 A mineralized growth that forms starting at the floor of a cave Stalagmite
Vocabulary 1
#1 Rubbing action (rock against rock or sand against rock) that weathers rock like sandpaper Abrasion
#2 A flat area of deposited sediment at the place where a river slows and empties into another body of water Delta
#3 Depositing eroded rock and soil in other places Deposition
#4 The force that moves rocks and other material downhill Gravity
#5 A natural tunnel within an area of solidified lav, through which molten lava once traveled Lava tube
Vocabulary 2
#1 Automatic $500!!!!! WOOHOO!!!
#2 The flat area bordering a river, composed of sediment deposited during flooding Flood plain
#3 Anything in the environment that humans use Natural resource
#4 The dozen or so plates that cover the surface of the earth and are constantly moving Tectonic plates
#5 The thick mass of tough roots at the surface of the soil; keeps soil in place Sod
Final Question
What is the main difference between changes like volcanoes / earthquakes and changes like weathering/erosion? Volcanoes and earthquakes can change the earth's surface very quickly. Weathering and erosion change the earth's surface very slowly.
